April 27, 2009 - Part I - Ariel's Album

As I sit here with Soojin, snacking on some delicious post-studying goodies, I started to play her my sister's album. I had heard the tracks before and had been procrastinating listening to the new album in the skin. After a week of looking it on my coffee table I decided to unwrap the fresh packaging plastic and pop it in the computer. We sat and listened to the full album. I sat there in awe as the last track, Alone at Midnight, began to play. I realized that this was her second album, and how much work she has been putting into it. Between writing her own lyrics, tinkering on the piano, or strumming her guitar, she has composed a testimony that could be heard and understood by a lot of people.

Her lyrics play with the candor of a girl who just wants things to be normal, and she embellishes on the lyrics with well-fit vocals. As most musicians could attest to, it is only time and experience that can provide the inspiration for created music - Ariel, is getting there as a lyricist and this album confirms the direction and growth that will be available in future albums. That being said, Ariel has hooked me with two of her songs: "No Destination" and "Dry My Eyes." "No Destination" has an amazing beat in the background, and "Dry My Eyes" plays with Ariel's creativity in vocal harmonies.

Ariel released her album this past weekend, and it's currently available on DigStation.

April 24, 2009 - Part III - Jenna Steely!

So I was browsing through some of my friend's websites, and I stumbled upon Jenna Steely's new home page. It has a fantastic concept. Watching the design students enter the job market, I have noticed the importance of not only displaying your technical skill, artistic ability and creative ingenuity, but the importance of displaying your character and personality. Jenna does an excellent job hooking the resumé checkers and engaging the web browsers with a simple interactive hair design activity displaying her creativity and personality. Brilliant, Jenna!

Well it's been decided. (Thank you Decision Sciences!) I will be headed to graduate school: The Heinz College Master's of Entertainment Industry Management. The first year is in Pittsburgh focusing on the economic, financial and managerial skills needed in the industry. The second year, in Los Angeles, puts students in real-world working co-ops from Monday to Thursday, then right back into the classroom on Friday and Saturday. During the second year, the MEIM program hooks up its students with a networking week in LA and a chalet during the Sundance Film Festival. I can't wait!

Carnival was this week. It was an amazing time. Theta Xi participated in booth this year, constructing a MarioKart64 Mini Golf course. Kids, students, and parents alike were putt-putting away. Check out our Koopa Troopa Beach, Mario Raceway, Bowser's Castle, and Rainbow Road tributes. Also pictured below, are some pictures from Carnegie Mellon's Buggy! I was fortunate enough to be one of the commentator's this year! Broadcasted live on cmuTV and WRCT, I worked with several alumni to provide full coverage of the Buggy Preliminaries. Finally, check out a picture from the Diplo concert at Diesel. It was epic to say the least.

In other news, Jeremy Neuberg, Michael Fitzgerald, Doug Charma and myself, won First Place at the History and Public Policy Case Competition on Monday, April 13th.
