UpdateAboutResume (.pdf)Productions: The Variety Hour
|
I want to be a producer, so I am attending the Heinz College Master's of Entertainment Industry Management (Class of 2011) at Carnegie Mellon University. I will focus my expertise towards variety-based live, television, and movie entertainment. My undergraduate degree, Decision Sciences (Class of 2009), applies quantitative and qualitative analysis to all industries, because everyone must make better decisions. Whether it's the medical industry, creative enterprises, or business development, optimization and insight can't hurt anyone. I narrowed my focus within Decision Sciences to Supply Chain Analysis, Behavioral Networks & Insight, and Neurosciences. I wrote my senior thesis surrounding my fall of 2008 internship at Saturday Night Live. Along with thorough examination of the television industry's technological and regulatory evolution, I began to analyze the Variety-based genre and programs such as: Late Night Talk Shows, Variety Hours, Laugh-In, MadTV, and most importantly, Saturday Night Live. SNL's break-in to late night television and variety based entertainment was an astounding accomplishment. On top, the transition of an "improvisationally organized production" to a soundly running production pipeline established the show's sustainability. My goal is to apply stronger production pipelines with higher entertainment utility to the entertainment industry - if you can write an hour and a half long show in a week, you can do anything in a week. It's all about effeciency. Throughout my undergraduate experience, I was fortunate enough to participate in several master's level courses at the Entertainment Technology Center at Carnegie Mellon University. Bringing together multiple academic persepctives, this multidisciplinary collaboration lead to the successful production of digital shorts, virtual worlds, and interactive adventures. I worked as a producer for several projects, as well as an active sound engineer, film editor, and texture artist. With two weeks to complete each project, you must be able to help out with anything - and if you can't you better learn quickly. My final focus throughout my academic and professional career has been through marketing. If you are going to make an entertaining piece, you have to know for whom you are making it. My marketing experience has ranged from large corporate infrastructures (AT&T) to the small business (ms consultants, inc) to the third-party firms (Engauge). Understanding such a wide variety of sizes, outlets, and demographics can come in handy when a show needs 8 million viewers a week to avoid the chopping block. Less technically: I was born in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. I was raised in and played baseball for Ostrander, Ohio. From Kindergarten to my Senior Year of high school I attended Village Academy in Powell, Ohio. For undergraduate school, I attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I play piano and can cook. I enjoy taking pictures, roller coasters, and quirky movies. Laugh-In is one of my favorite television shows. The Phantom Tollbooth is one of my favorite books. Enjoy, Alexander Andrews
